Biography

Communication designer and academic. He is a lecturer at Dokuz Eylul University Fine Arts Faculty Graphics Department and the founding director of DEU Flag Science and Turkish Flags Museum. He works in the fields of visual communication culture, graphic design history, design management and archiving.

He managed Ambalajtasarimi.com, which he founded in 2004, until 2006. Between 2006 and 2009, he was the editor-in-chief of the "Graphic Design" magazine, of which he was one of the founders. In 2010, the research “100 Graphic Designers and Illustrators of Istanbul” was published. In the same year, he was among the founders of Tasa Platform collective, which organizes 'design walk' events. Again in 2010, he became one of the founders of the Turkish Typography Society. The master's thesis named "Color Decisions with Associative Learning in Packaging Design of FMCG" was published in the Academic Publication Series of the Packaging Manufacturers Association in 2015. After her first personal exhibition she opened in 2004; He has curated many exhibitions in the field of design history: "The Cover Painters of the Porte", "Firuz Aşkın is 90 Years Old", "Icons of Sait Maden", "Speaking to the Eyes: Visualizing Knowledge from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic", "Painters of the Fair" : Traces of Graphic Design in the History of İzmir Fair”, “Oh Brother: Thessaloniki İzmir” and “History of Subtleties: Gülten Akın”, “Erbil Tusalp Library”. Durmaz is also the "100 Graphic Designers and Illustrators of Istanbul", "My Landscape Izmir" and "19. He is the author of the books "The Painter Boğos Tatikyan and the Tatikyan Printing House in 21st Century İzmir".

Among the activities and publications of which he is a member of the scientific board; Packaging Congress, İmece: Art and Design Symposium, International Student Triennial, UTAK National Design Research Conference, 4T: Design and Design History Society Symposium, "Art & Design Journal" and "Art-e Art Journal" can be counted. He served on the board of directors of GMK: Graphic Designers Professional Organization and 4T: Design and Design History Society, of which he is one of the founders. He is a member of the editorial board of the journal "Social History".
