Biography

Mehmet Girgin is a conductor. He was born in Mordoğan, Turkey on the 12th December 1986. At the age of 11, he started his first musical studies with Adnan Polge. And then, he graduated from Işılay Saygın Anatolian Fine Arts High School and Dokuz Eylül University Music Teaching Section of Fine Arts Education Department in Faculty of Education. At the same time he continued his prived piano studies with Yaprak Sandalcı and Özlem Ebesek.

In September 2009 he was accepted to the Conducting Department of Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris and he was sent to France with ENKA Foundation scholarship. In this school, he continued his Conducting studies with Prof. Dominique Rouits and Prof. Julien Masmondet, Conducting Analysis and Instrumentation with Prof. Bruno Gousset and Form and Style Analysis of Baroque, Classical, Romantic period and the 20th Century Music with Prof. Jean Dominique Pasquet. Then, he graduated from “Diplôme” and “Diplôme Superieur” levels. At the same time, he studied orchestration with Maria Navone at Municipal Conservatory Charles Munch and finished this class with a “very good” degree (mention très bien). During this process, he also received the support of Serap Kayhan. In 2014, he was accepted to the Master of Conducting Department in Fine Arts Institute of Hacettepe University State Conservatory and he continued his conducting studies with Prof. Burak Tüzün and Prof. Erol Erdinç. In the same year, he was transfered to the Master of Music/Conducting Departement in Fine Arts Institute of Dokuz Eylül University State Conservatory and he completed his studies with advisor Prof. Ebru Güner Canbey. In the same school, he started PHD degree in Music/Conducting Department and he continued his conducting studies with Prof. Jean Baily and then he was the first graduate of this departement.

Associate Professor Mehmet Girgin currently works at the Composition and Conducting Department of Dokuz Eylül State Conservatory and is the conductor of the Symphonic Orchestra of Dokuz Eylül State Conservatory.
