Biography

Zuhal Unalp-Cepel is an associate professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Dokuz Eylül University. In 2008, she received a Finnish state scholarship (CIMO) for PhD research and studied at the University of Eastern Finland. She received her PhD from the Department of European Studies at Dokuz Eylül University, in 2013. The thesis is titled “Civil Society, Europeanization, and Democratization in Turkey: Changing Role of MUSIAD”. Her research interests are civil society, migration, democratization, and Turkey-EU relations. She took part in voluntary projects with UNHCR and UNICEF. She was a project staff at a Jean Monnet Network Project, POWERS Network. Within the scope of the Project, she presented papers in the workshops organized by the University of Bordeaux, France, Dokuz Eylül University, Turkey, the University of Seville, Spain, and Kore University of Enna, Italy. She has been actively taking part in several COST Action projects. She will serve as the UNESCO Co-Chair on International Migration between 2024 and 2028 and coordinate a Jean Monnet Module on EU Policy Making on Migration (EUPOLY-MIG) between 2024 and 2027.
