Prof. Dr. İbrahim Serkan MISIR

He is one of the founding members of Dokuz Eylül University Structural Engineering Laboratory.

He is a member of the regulation steering commission established by AFAD and responsible for the necessary revisions of the 2018 Turkey Building Earthquake Regulation.

He is a member of Urban Transformation Services Branch Directorate, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Izmir Provincial Directorate, Risky Building Appeal Technical Committee.

Working Areas:

Earthquake resistant building design, performance analysis and retrofitting

Quasi-static testing of large geometric scale structural specimens

Behavior of infilled reinforced concrete frames, development of new generation infill walls and in-plane/out-of-plane testing

Behavior and strengthening of monolithic and prefabricated column-beam joints

Behavior of historical and recent masonry buildings, out-of-plane laboratory tests and strengthening

Shake table tests of non-structural elements

Staggered seismic pre-assessment studies for city-scale building inventory

Education and Work Life:

Prof. İbrahim Serkan Mısır received his bachelor's degree from Dokuz Eylül University, Department of Civil Engineering in 1999.

Before starting his graduate studies, he worked as a field engineer in the evaluation of buildings damaged in the 1999 Kocaeli and Düzce earthquakes and in the construction of a steel factory structure.

He received his master's and doctoral degrees in 2004 and 2011 in the field of structural engineering with studies on structure-soil interaction and strengthening of column-beam joints.

 In 2014, he conducted postdoctoral research at VirginiaTech/USA with TUBITAK overseas scholarship.

Between 2004 and 2016, he worked as a researcher at Dokuz Eylül University, Department of Civil Engineering as a specialist, between 2016 and 2023 as an Associate Professor and since 2023 as a Full Professor.
