Biography
After graduating from Ankara University, Department
of Japanese Language and Literature, Devrim Çetin GÜVEN
received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of
Tokyo Graduate School of Arts and Sciences under the
supervision of the critic and literary theorist Yōichi Komori (
小森陽一). He specialized in the fields of contemporary
Japanese literature, notably the 1994 Nobel laureate
Kenzaburō Ōe (大江健三郎) and the interplay of Western
and non-Western world literatures. He taught Turkish in Keio
Gijuku University (慶應義塾大学) Department of Eastern
History. He published many articles, book chapters and
essays in Turkish, English, Japanese and French focusing on
the literary, artistic, and philosophical interaction of Asia,
Africa, and the West. He wrote an extensive commentary for
the first volume of Kenzaburō Ōe Collected Novels (『大江
健三郎全小説』2018) series compiled by Kōdansha in
Japan. He translated the works of Japanese writers and literary
theorists such as Kōjin Karatani, Yukio Mishima, Takiji Kobayashi, Kōbō
Abe, Yūichi Seirai, Natsuki Ikezawa and Junichirō Tanizaki
into Turkish. Güven is currently teaching at
Dokuz Eylül University Department of Comparative
Literature.
