Introduction: Adolescents with mental disorders are at risk for physical health problems from the early stages of psychiatric diagnosis and treatment. Aim: This study aims to explore the perspectives of adolescents with mental disorders regarding physical health. Method: This study employed a qualitative descriptive design. Purposive sampling method was used. The sample consisted of 13 adolescents who were being followed up at a child and adolescent psychiatry outpatient clinic. Data were collected through in-depth interviews using a descriptive information form and a semi-structured interview form. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: The views of adolescents with mental disorders on their physical health were grouped under three main themes: (1) perceptions about health, (2) promoting and maintaining physical health, and (3) needs. Conclusions: The findings revealed that adolescents varied in how they defined and perceived physical health, and that mental disorders influenced these perceptions. A multidisciplinary approach should be prioritized to protect and promote the physical health of adolescents with mental disorders. Limitations: A limitation of this study is that the adolescents were receiving medical services from the physician who referred them to the study. Another limitation is that the study focuses on the subjective experiences of adolescents with mental disorders. Implications: The study emphasizes the necessity of individualized and multidimensional interventions to support the physical health of adolescents with mental disorders. The findings highlight the need for healthcare professionals and policymakers to develop multidisciplinary approaches and sustainable support mechanisms aimed at improving the physical health of adolescents. Recommendations: Future studies should focus on developing interventions and programs aimed at improving the physical health of adolescents with mental disorders. Future studies could further explore the role of parental perspectives.
