Aim: To determine the extent of herbal medicine use in children via preanesthetic evaluation Material and Method: A questionnaire was applied to the parents of 800 children who applied for preanesthetic evaluation before surgery. Results: During the study period between 2007 June and 2010 March, 32% of the patients were using herbal medicine and 23% were using another product. The most commonly used herbals were garlic, green tea, and urtica drocia. Conclusion: A total of 32% of children had a current or past history of ingestion of herbal medicines. This finding may have implications for the perioperative management of children presenting for surgery.
