Dear Readers,

External fixation in veterinary medicine represents an indispensable and continuously evolving area of orthopedic surgery. In this issue, we delve into the depths of this important technique, addressing its current applications, the challenges encountered, and its future potential.

External fixation has become an important technique for veterinary practitioners, offering flexibility and effectiveness in many orthopedic conditions, such as stabilizing fractures, joint fusions, and correcting extremity deformities. This technique significantly improves the quality of life of our patients with its advantages such as being minimally invasive, reducing the risk of infection, and providing adjustability during the healing process.

Today, with technological advancements, external fixation systems are also constantly evolving. Thanks to biocompatible materials, 3D printing technologies, and computer-aided design (CAD) software, it has become possible to develop lighter, stronger, and patient-specific fixation devices. These innovations increase the precision of surgical procedures while having the potential to shorten recovery times and reduce complication rates.

In the future, the role of external fixation in veterinary medicine will further expand. Smart fixation devices can monitor bone healing in real-time via biosensors and automatically adjust the treatment plan as needed. Furthermore, thanks to personalized medicine approaches, the most appropriate and effective external fixation solutions can be developed for each patient. Integrations with robotic surgery will further increase the precision and success rates in this field.
