Özet

Solar energy holds great potential for sustainable energy. Solar energy, harnessed in various ways, can be used directly to generate electricity or indirectly to generate both thermal and electricity. One system that allows for indirect electricity generation from the sun is the solar chimney power plant (SCPP). With its simple structure consisting of a collector, chimney, and turbine, the SCPP uses the solar energy it absorbs to heat the air. The heated air is accelerated upwards by the density difference and the vacuum effect of the tall chimney at the center of the system. The kinetic energy of the accelerated air is converted into electricity by the turbine. This study evaluates the evolution of traditional SCPP to innovative approaches and its potential for generating clean water. Airflow over a seawater pool located at the center of a hybrid system, built with integrated photovoltaic modules, increases the relative humidity of the system air. The water is then condensed from the moist air discharged through the chimney, producing pure water. The system's potential and the potential of SCPP for generating clean water are evaluated.
