Maritime transport, as an important component of global supply chains, requires the coordination and thorough integration of related functions combining the ship, cargo, and relevant players and actors involved. Maritime business has a holistic structure embracing economy, business, law, engineering, and logistics disciplines. Companies involved in various fields of maritime industry need to consider the changing patterns taking place in such disciplines in order to remain competitive. This chapter is an introduction dedicated to a brief explanation of the maritime business administration by providing an overview of the main concepts. The chapter starts with the maritime business administration concept by shedding light on the history, definitions, and industrial classifications. Then, main actors involved in the maritime business administration are explained by considering their roles and functions. In the third section, the chapter provides a brief explanation regarding the ship and cargo types and then basic maritime route classifications are given together with the main factors leading to configurations in maritime routes. The chapter concludes with the discussion.
