Association of fibroadenoma with ductal epithelial proliferative lesions in the adjacent breast parenchyma

Özet

In this study, the surrounding breast parenchyma of 52 fibroadenomas (FAs) with or without epithelial proliferative changes were evaluated for preneoplastic, ductal epithelial proliferative lesions. For 50% ( 15 30) of the FAs with epithelial proliferative lesions and 9% ( 2 22) of the FAs without such changes, ductal epithelial hyperplastic lesions of varying degrees were found in the surrounding breast parenchyma. Because of this significant association of preneoplastic, epithelial proliferative lesions in and around the FAs, it is suggested that FAs be removed with a wide area of adjacent breast tissue for more extensive histologic evaluation. © 1995.
