Özet

Solidification cracking remains a critical limitation in the laser-arc hybrid welding (LAHW) of aluminum-silicon (Al-Si) alloys, especially due to their coarse dendritic microstructure and high solidification rates. This study investigates the combined effects of niobium (Nb) and boron (B) micro-alloying, along with an externally applied alternating magnetic field, on the weldability, microstructure, and mechanical properties of high-silicon ER4047 filler wire in LAHW applications. Modified filler wires were produced through controlled alloying and hot rolling, and then used to weld AA6061-T6 plates under varying magnetic field intensities (0-15 mT). Results revealed that the formation of NbB2 particles acted as potent heterogeneous nucleation sites, refining the weld microstructure and eliminating solidification cracks. Furthermore, arc oscillation induced by the external alternative magnetic field enhanced dendrite fragmentation and grain detachment, leading to significant grain refinement. The combined approach resulted in improved tensile strength, elongation, and hardness of the weld metal. These findings demonstrate a promising pathway for mitigating solidification cracking in Al-Si alloy welding by integrating inoculation techniques with electromagnetic arc control.
