In this study, we have investigated group
velocity changes of Rayleigh waves beneath the Aeagean region of Turkiye.
Continuous noise data were collected from 43 broadband stations from different
networks. Empirical Green’s functions were estimated between all possible
station pairs via cross-correlation method. Group velocities of fundamental mode
Rayleigh waves were determined from 716 Empirical Green’s functions between
period range of 2-12s using multiple filter technique. The group velocity maps
were computed from measured dispersions using the fast-marching surface
tomography method. The group velocity maps are in good agreement with the main
geological and tectonic features of the region, showing low velocities for the
Quaternary alluvial basins, moderate velocities for the Cretaceous rocks, and
high velocities for the basement rocks outcrop.
