Abstract

The share of agriculture in Turkish GNP and exports has decreased over the last two decades. However, agriculture still plays an important role in Turkish economy since it provides employment opportunities and supports industry by producing raw materials. Fig is an important subsector of the Turkish agricultural economy. Turkey is ranked first in the world's fig production with approximately 10 million fig trees on cultivated fig area. The value of fig exports sum up to 80 million.
