26th Annual Conference of the European Society for Clinical Virology, Frankfurt, Almanya, 18 - 21 Eylül 2024, ss.126-127, (Özet Bildiri)
AIM: Rapid diagnosis of infectious meningitis and encephalitis (ME) is essential for appropriate treatment. Rapid
syndromic tests are important tools to ensure the necessary timely diagnosis. This study evaluated the one-year
performance of the QIAstat-Dx ME panel in the routine diagnostic workflow at a university hospital.
METHODS: A total of 107 CSF samples were analyzed with the QiaStat Dx ME (QS-ME) panel between January
2022 and January 2023. Simultaneously, microscopic evaluation, biochemical analyzes and bacterial, fungal and
mycobacterial cultures were performed in CSF according to the physician’s order.
RESULTS: CSF samples were obtained from patients aged between 0 days and 90 years (mean: 28,9). Nine viruses
(Ct >20) and three bacteria (Ct <20) were detected by the panel in 12 of 107 (11.2%) samples. Detected pathogens
were: enterovirus (n:5) and parechovirus (n:1) in the infant group; HHV-6 (n:1) in the child group, HSV-1 (n:1),
S.pneumoniae (n:1) and N.meningitidis (n:1) in the adult group; VZV (n:1) and S.pneumoniae (n:1) in the elderly
group. Sample with N. meningitidis was culture negative due to antibiotic use before the lumber puncture. No
culture positive PCR negative samples were detected for the bacteria covered by the panel. The QS-ME panel was
operated 24/7, and the average time between sample acceptance and reporting of the result was 122 minutes.
CONCLUSIONS: QS-ME panel enabled the detection of pathogens in 10 samples that could not be diagnosed with
routine conventional diagnostic tests in the laboratory and provided results 24/7, within an average of 2 hours.
