Özet

Aim: Medicals students should be able to evaluate childhood inguino-scrotal disorders (ISD) and they should be placed in the clinical skills training curriculum. In this paper, the results obtained with models developed for simulated ISD education were presented. Method: Model simulated ISD clinical skills training was given to 2nd (n:207) and 5th (n:128) term medical students, to the general practitioners during the 1st Pediatric Surgery Postgraduate Education Workshop (n:36) and the 6th General Practitioners Congress, (n:44). The feedbacks of the participants were evaluated by an educational concultant from the department. Results: The success rate of the model simulators were evaluated as 55 % - 66 % by the 2nd term and 79 % - 84 % by the 5th term medical students, 76 % - 85 % by the participants of the 1st Pediatric Surgery Postgraduate Education Workshop and 87 % - 91 % by the 6th General Practitioners Congress participants. When the results were evaluated the model simulated ISD education was found successful for reaching the educational aims. To the best of our knowledge we could not find any article in the Medline database about model simulated education in pediatric surgery. This does not mean that model simulated education is not used in pediatric surgery but we think that its importance is not well recognised. Conclusion: Model simulated education in clinical skills training is practical and effective method. One of the important advantages and superiority of the model simulators are that they help in reaching the educational aims without annoying the patients. We think that, modifications and wider distribution of models will help to improve training in pediatric surgery.
