IAGA / IASPEI Joint Scientific Meeting 2025, Lisbon, Portugal, 31 August - 05 September 2025, pp.1, (Summary Text)
The International Heat Flow Commission (IHFC) has long been dedicated to curating the Global Heat Flow Database (GHFDB),
ensuring its accuracy and usability for the scientific community. With dataset now completed for many continents; efforts have shifted
toward assessing marine heat-flow data. This transition presents unique challenges due to the diverse measurement techniques, environmental
influences, and data quality variations inherent in oceanic settings. A significant advancement is the introduction of a novel
quality score—integrating quantified uncertainty, methodological rigor, and the influence of overriding environmental effects—now
applied for the first time to marine data. This framework enables a more transparent and standardized evaluation, effectively identifying
gaps and inconsistencies. Looking ahead, ongoing efforts aim to refine reporting standards and enhance data accessibility, ensuring
that the marine heat-flow dataset meets the highest scientific standards. This presentation will highlight key advancements, challenges
encountered, and the future outlook for improving the quality and usability of marine heat-flow data within the GHFD framework.
