Abstract

The umbilical cord, a structure vital to growth and well-being of the fetus, is 50-60 cm long at term gestation and three blood vessels course through Wharton's jelly in a helical fashion. Single umbilical artery is associated with multiple organ malformations, placental insufficiency and intrauterin fetal growth retardation. In this study we analyzed six cases and reviewed the present literature.
