A method has been developed to obtain computer simulations of woven fabric structures based on photographs taken from actual yarns along their lengths. Yarn images are obtained using a digital video camera taking snapshots along the length of an actual yarn drawn intermittently by a yam drawing arrangement designed. The fabric simulations are confined to single fabrics of plain, matt and twill weaves. Yarn curves in the fabric structure are modelled mathematically and projections of yam images in the perpendicular direction to fabric surface are obtained by suitable software developed.
