Özet

Arctic shipping has come to the forefront as a cost-saving alternative for traditional shipping routes and consequently attracted academic interest. While this interest is rapidly increasing with the inclusion of various disciplines, the nature of this increase is rather unstructured. Even though several efforts were made in reviewing the related literature manually, it proves to be a challenge to address the latent themes regarding the issue. This study aims to identify said latent themes in Arctic shipping literature and capture the changes in the thematic interest over the years. A dataset of 350 articles on Arctic shipping from the Web of Science was analyzed using Latent Dirichlet Allocation. The findings revealed six emerging topics, with an increase in growth and thematic variety after 2010. In addition, intertopic distances were measured, revealing research opportunities that would fill existing gaps in the literature. Themes and trends drawn from the study could prove to be useful for providing a broader look at the existing literature of Arctic shipping and guiding research directions for scholars.
