In Turkey, as well as in many other countries, youth unemployment remains a significant problem linked to socioeconomic conditions. Various factors influence the duration of unemployment among young graduates. This study aims to determine, model, and interpret the unemployment duration of 180 graduates of the Department of Statistics at Dokuz Eylül University between 2014 and 2019, along with the factors that affect this duration, using survival analysis. The study's Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses reveal that the variables of "gender," "postgraduate education," "life satisfaction," "internship status," and "computer program knowledge" are statistically significant for the period between graduation and finding the first job. The study demonstrates that choosing the right internship place is critical and shows the necessity of university internships. With the appropriate internship, graduates can find a job quicker than expected.
Günümüzde birçok ülkede olduğu gibi Türkiye’de de sosyo-ekonomik koşullara bağlı genç nüfusun işsizlik süresi en önemli problemlerden birisidir. İşsizlik süresini etkileyen birçok faktör bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi, İstatistik bölümü mezunlarının işsizlik süresi ve bu süreyi etkileyen faktörlerin anket çalışması ile elde edilen verilerden sağkalım analizi ile bulunması amaçlanmaktadır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda yapılan Kaplan-Meier ve Cox regresyon çözümlemelerine göre, mezun olduktan sonra ilk iş buluncaya kadar olan sürede, cinsiyet, lisanüstü eğitim, yaşam memnuniyeti, staj durumu ve bilgisayar program bilgileri değişkenleri istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmuştur. Özellikle staj yerinin doğru seçimi ile beklenenden çok daha kısa sürede iş bulunabildiği sonucu üniversitelerde stajın ne kadar gerekli olduğunun kanıtı olarak elde edilmiştir.
