Abstract

In northwest Anatolia, a blueschist rock assemblage consists, in an ascending order, of a metaclastic unit, a metacarbonate unit and a metaolistostrome unit. The structurally conformable metamorphic succession is overlain by the late Cretaceous to early Paleocene olistostrome-megabreccia-turbidite unit with derived clasts. The lower part of the metacarbonate unit contains a late Norian conodont Mockina slovakensis (KozuR) population, a typical Tethyan intraplatform shallow basin assemblage.
