Abstract

New product development, product life cycles, and decision support procedures are under time pressure for product and service manufacturers that wish to stay competitive. The medium or long-term waiting for the direct execution of planning and designs and the analysis of the outcomes is no longer necessary due to the opportunities given by technological changes. Years ago, they were superseded mainly by rapid prototyping environments and real-time simulations. In Industry 4.0, developing technologies have led to creating a more advanced version known as a digital twin, an exact virtual replica of a system. The positive exponential trend in this field’s study is the source of this technology’s rapid growth since its introduction. The extensive impacts of the related research are indicated by the articles they contribute to the literature and technological advancements. Accordingly, this paper aims to give the fundamental statistics, network linkages, and conceptual structures of a portfolio of articles on digital twin technology. On bibliometric data obtained from Web of Science and Scopus, including original articles published between 2010 and 2021(June), related text and network analytics techniques are employed regarding bibliometrics. Various outputs were obtained pertaining to authors, collaborations, journals, citations, keywords, and additional metrics.

Keywords: Digital twin, Bibliometrics, Web of Science, Bibliometrix, Scopus.
