The effectiveness of alternative point exercises to be applied to ballet students

Özet

Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of alternative point exercises applied to ballet students. Materials and Methods: This study included ballet students who have studied full time and have not started point in Cukurova University State Conservatory Ballet Main Art Branch. Alternative exercises were enforced with the specified instruments to the half of these students for six months and this group was designated as the experimental group and the other half as the control group. Alternative exercises were made for students outside the ballet curriculum and used devices are superior arch foot stretcher and elgin archxerciser foot strengthening device. Results: In this study 5 female students with standard training average age of 10.9 +/- 0.1, body mass index of 16.78 +/- 0.92 and 5 female students with alternative training average of 10.2 +/- 0.44, body mass index of 15.76 +/- 1.5 kg/m2 were compared. At the end of six months of training, significant differences were found in right, left eversion muscle strength, right hip internal rotation muscle strength and foot plantar flexion range of motion. Conclusion: Similar results were obtained in the measured values before and after of the six months training. Statistical difference was not observed because of the small number of participants but the results of those with alternative training showed a positive increase. New studies with greater sample size may provide clearer results.
