Özet
Among the existing sectors in Turkey (agriculture, industry, drinking water, tourism, etc.), agricultural irrigation accounts for 74% of water consumption. 97.5% of the total amount of water on Earth is found as salt water in oceans and seas, and 2.5% is found as fresh water in rivers and lakes. Approximately 30% of freshwater consists of groundwater, while the remaining 0.4% consists of atmospheric water and surface water. This study aims to determine the nitrate pollution levels in agricultural surface waters of Erzurum province, Türkiye, and to demonstrate the basic relationships between nitrate measurement values and physicochemical parameters using data between 2022 and 2024. For this purpose, “Nitrate”, “Total Phosphorus”, “Total Nitrogen”, “Orthophosphate”, “pH”, “Temperature”, “Conductivity” and “Oxygen” values were taken as data from 78 surface stations. According to the descriptive statistics and correlation analysis results, the positive relationships between nitrate, orthophosphate and total nitrogen clearly show the effect of agricultural pollution by showing that they are fed by a common external source (fertilization, etc.). The inverse relationship between orthophosphate and oxygen may indicate a process that may cause depletion of dissolved oxygen, especially as a result of eutrophication (algal bloom). It was also found within the scope of the study that the physical parameters pH, temperature and oxygen did not show very strong connections with chemical charges.
