This paper investigates the effects of surface texture on the wear performance of AISI 316 stainless steel. The material surface was engraved as a function of scan speed and frequency using laser engraving technique. The output of wear tests is coefficient of friction and wear rate were carried out dry test condition under 5 N loads, at 0,18m/s sliding speed. The results for surface roughness indicate that both scan speed and frequency affects the texture of surface. There is a non linear relationship between scan speed and surface roughness for all frequencies and also a same relationship was observed between scan speed and coefficient of friction. Moreover, the results suggest that low surface roughness has higher coefficient of friction at each scan speed.
