Patients older than 70 years of age account for greater than 70 percent of pacemakers implanted, in part this is due to the physiologic changes that occur with aging, in which the heart conduction system becomes disordered. Augmented life expectancy in western communities and improved therapeutic options for heart disease have increased the proportion of elderly patients requiring pacemaker implantation during the last three decades. We report on a 106-year-old Turkish woman who suffered from complete AV block and underwent permanent pacemaker implantation. She is the second oldest patient with implanted permanent pacemaker in the world.
