Modelling, Measurement and Control B, vol.74, pp.23-40, 2005 (Scopus)
This paper is aimed at determining stresses at the most critical cross sections of a tower crane by using computer aided engineering program, I-DEAS. Two different tower crane assemblies, which are called Assembly 1 and Assembly 2, were modeled and analyzed. In the first model, the length of the Support Arm is 27.9m and in the second model, the length is 21.1m. The only difference between Assembly 1 and Assembly 2 is the length of the Support Arm, other parts being equal. The hoisting load was taken into account as 4000kg. Stress distributions in the cross sections show variation according to the place of cross section and type of assembly. And, maximum value of stress was found as 119 N/mm2 for element 3992 located, where Border Support is bound to Counter Jib.
