Özet

The research are there any significant effects of students' using the reading strategies by means of the texts on the coursebooks on their attitudes towards Turkish course? The aim of the research, i{dotless}t is to investigate the effects of the reading comprehension strategies instruction performed by means of the texts on the coursebooks on the attitudes towards reading at elementary school 8th grade Turkish course. In this research, an experimental pattern with pretest-posttest-control groups was used. The research was performed in a middle socioeconomic level elementary school classroom in İzmir/Buca. The research was carried out with two groups one of which is experimental group, and the other is control group gathered by random assignment. In experimental group (n=61; female=29, male=32), instruction related to reading comprehension strategies was applied whereas in control group (n=59; female=28, male=31), Turkish Course Curriculum instruction was applied. In this research, in order to determine the students' attitudes towards reading, "Attitude Scale Towards Reading (ASTR)" developed by Susar Ki{dotless}rmi{dotless}zi{dotless} (2006) was used. At the end of the research a significant difference was obtained in favour of the experimental group between pre-tests and post-tests of the reading comprehension strategies learning group, and Turkish Course Curriculum instruction group. The reading comprehension strategies instruction performed by means of the texts in elementary school 8th grade can be affective on developing attitudes towards reading.
