Özet

Taking Stock of Ottoman Studies: A Bibliometric Analysis on Web of Science (1975-2018)

SUMMARY ----

Studies on various aspects of Ottoman Empire form a vast and ever-growing literature. This literature, which could roughly be called as “Ottoman studies” mostly falls under the category of history, but its scope and depth increase constantly so as to involve a variety of fields such as sociology, anthropology, folklore, political sciences etc. The present study aims at a bibliometric analysis of this literature, with particular respect to the major trends, research agendas and leading topics. The analysis intends to shed light on changes in trends as well, by means of a diachronic approach covering a time span from 1975 to this day. Thus, the study intends not only to suggest an overall picture of the Ottoman studies, but it is also expected to shed light on changes over time both in qualitative and quantitative terms.
