Özet

Mining activities around Emet area affected the geochemical properties of the surface and ground waters and stream sediments along the Kocacay River. As and B concentrations of surface water and stream sediments increased remarkably downstream and were affected by the mine tailings located close the river bed. As and B concentrations reached to 213 and 8092 ppb in surface water samples, and 1870 and 21500 ppb in groundwater samples, respectively. These contents are directly related to the dissolution of orpiment, realgar, colemanite minerals in borate bearing clay zone. Activities in colemanite mining and naturally occurring dissolution of some elements caused some contamination especially As and B to exceed the water quality standards for surface and groundwaters.
