Özet
Companies and countries require substantial financing for their sustainability-related activities. In line with this need, international organizations and countries have created standards and principles for sustainability reporting for transparent and accurate information sharing. Environmental, social, and governance reporting has become very important for access to sustainability financing, which provides additional funding sources. New instruments such as green loans, green bonds, and social bonds are created by the financial markets to provide additional financing for sustainability activities and transformation. Companies in emerging markets, if they fulfill the requirements and have a focus on sustainability, can also have access to these sources as in the case of Arçelik, which is founded in Türkiye and listed on Borsa Istanbul. This chapter discusses the historic evolution of sustainable finance, including the development of green financial instruments, sustainability indexes, and reporting standards. It highlights how Borsa Istanbul serves as an illustrative example of a developing market that has effectively integrated sustainability principles through environmental, social, and governance (ESG) guidelines, sustainability indices, and global collaboration. The case of Arçelik further exemplifies how companies in emerging markets can leverage these frameworks to access sustainable finance, drive their sustainability transformation, and align with international standards.
