The washing machine is one of the important white goods in daily life. It prevents people to
spend their time for doing laundry. Features including artificial intelligence such as choosing the optimum
time and program according to the type and amount of the laundry help users to make decisions instead. In
a conventional washing machine, the user has to make settings such as program selection, time, spin and
temperature himself / herself. However, thistype of decisions can be made in smart machines automatically.
Smart machine can obtain the information through different sensors and use this information to make the
appropriate decision about the related operations. Smart washing machines offer many different features
that make the user's job easier. In this study, it is aimed to obtain the most suitable washing time for a smart
washing machine system with three inputs and one output by a fuzzy controller. The triangular membership
method is used to fuzzify the inputs and the minimum inference engine is chosen to evaluate the predefined
rules. The effects of different defuzzification methods on the washing time duration is examined. It is
observed that designing a fuzzy controller with triangular membership function, minimum inference engine
and center of gravity defuzzification can reach optimum time compared to other defuzzification methods.
