Abstract

This methodological study aimed to adapt the “Motivation for Nursing Student Scale (MNSS)” into Turkish and evaluate its validity and reliability. The research was conducted with 333 undergraduate nursing students from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years enrolled at Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Nursing during the spring semester of the 2023–2024 academic year. Data were collected using the “Student Identification Form” and the Turkish version of the “Motivation Scale for Nursing Students.” The validity of the scale was assessed through language and conceptual equivalence, content validity, and construct validity using confirmatory factor analysis. Reliability was tested using test-retest analysis, internal consistency (Cronbach’s α), item-total score correlations, and response bias evaluation.

Confirmatory factor analysis revealed a four-factor structure consistent with the original scale, with acceptable goodness-of-fit indices. Cronbach’s α coefficient was found to be .789, and item-total correlations ranged between .328 and .606. Test-retest results also supported reliability. As a result, the MNSS was determined to be a valid and reliable instrument for measuring motivation levels among Turkish nursing students. It is anticipated that this scale will be a valuable tool in Turkish nursing education for understanding and enhancing student motivation.
