International Congress on Current Issues in Environmental Law, İzmir, Türkiye, 24 - 25 Nisan 2025, (Yayınlanmadı)
This conference paper aims to apply a meta-analysis of contemporary
research emphasizing the intersection of Islam and environmental activism with
a specific focus on research conducted within the Turkish context. For this
goal, it synthesizes findings from peer-reviewed articles, reports, and
academic theses published within the last two decades, analyzing the diverse
ways in which Islamic principles and practices influence environmental
awareness and activism in Turkey. In doing so, this paper enables us to explore
how Islamic principles, institutions, NGOs and actors contribute to ecological
awareness, policy advocacy, and grassroots activism in Turkey. The analysis
explores the impact of religious discourse, community initiatives, and
institutional engagement on environmental stewardship, highlighting both the
potential and limitations of Islamic-inspired activism. It investigates how
religious actors engage with issues such as sustainable development,
conservation, and climate change, and the extent to which Islamic values
translate into concrete environmental actions. Furthermore, this study
identifies key trends, gaps, and areas for future research, contributing to a
deeper understanding of the complex relationship between Islam and
environmentalism in Turkey.
