Özet

Siddīq Hasan Khān, one of the important politicians and thinkers of the 19th-century Indian sub-continent, is one of the personalities who offered various solutions to the political and intellectual crisis in the Islamic world during his lifetime. In this respect, he assumed the carrier of the "return to essence" discourse, which he saw as a way out, in the geography of India, and made great efforts to institutionalize this thought with the policies he implemented. In this study, the practical equivalent of his solution method has been analyzed, and also the effect of his sectarian identity on his way of doing politics and his political biography has been examined. In this study, some contradictions have been identified between Siddīq Hasan Khān's sectarian identity and his way of doing politics. It has been observed that he made some pragmatic choices in active politics and made some concessions from his sectarian identity from time to time. However, it was observed that he did not limit himself to a local agenda and tried seeing the depression and troubles that spread throughout Islamic societies as a whole. In this context, he carried out efforts in various Islamic regions to announce the unification proposal in a certain way. It has also been determined that he tried to design the Bhopal under his management as a prototype to give a concrete appearance to his “return to the essence” project, which he saw as a solution model.
