All factors other than genetics, may be the most comprehensive definition of enviromental
factors that causes congenital cardiac defects. Produced metabolites, their effects on gene expressions
may be the way of those factors to form organogenesis. These factors may have come into
contact pre or postconceptional. Developing heart is much more sensitive to teratogenes during
the periods of rapid growth and differentiation. The majority of the causes of heart defects remains
unknown. But the existence of some particular factors can not be denied. These include diabetes,
various viruses, alcohol and thalidomide. Theratogenic effects of these factors may vary depending
on such factors; the dosage, genomes of the mother and embryo and gestational period of the contact.
