Özet

The volume and weight constraints in marine vessels are critical points to be considered in the design phase,

especially for small-scale boats, yachts, etc. This study aims to present the range of a 5.6 m-long recreational boat

that can be obtained with full tanks and batteries for 8 different configurations considering the number of batteries

and metal hydride tanks with a fuel cell according to the weight constraints of a recreational boat. Comparative

economic analyses of these configurations including the investment costs that will occur during the lifetime of the

systems due to these range changes, the hydrogen consumption of the systems as per unit energy requirement,

and the energy costs of the boat are conducted. The results show that hybrid systems can provide the longest range

when the dominant energy source used to propel the boat is the fuel cell rather than batteries. However, system

investment costs increase to a further extent than range, proportionately.
