The aim of this study is to examine how the image of women is represented through texts and visuals in primary school social studies textbooks used between 1980 and 2000, from a comparative perspective in relation to male images. Within the framework of the qualitative research approach, the textbooks were examined through document analysis by taking their historical context into consideration, and the data obtained were classified through content analysis. The identified themes were examined within the framework of the discourse-historical approach, while visual elements were analyzed using multimodal critical discourse analysis. In this context, six primary school social studies textbooks covering a twenty-year period were coded using NVivo 15 software in accordance with criteria determined through the Delphi technique. The findings of the study indicate that representations of women in textbooks during the period in question were largely shaped by raditional gender stereotypes. Women were predominantly associated with domestic and supportive roles, whereas men were represented more prominently in public, professional, and leadership roles. Nevertheless, particularly toward the end of the period, limited examples suggesting more egalitarian representations were also identified in some textbooks.
