Abstract

The effects of washing treatments on fabric surface appearance and on some fabric properties are examined. For this purpose, 20 plain-knitted cotton fabrics were produced by using 2 different types of yarns in different yarn counts (29.5 tex and 19.7 tex). After washing treatments (0 (unwashed), 5,15 and 25 washings), changes in some of the fabric properties important for clothing comfort and aesthetic properties, namely in fabric thickness, air permeability, pilling and abrasion resistance were determined. As a result it was found that 5 washing cycles was very important for fabric thickness, air permeability and fabric abrasion for the fabrics examined.
