Özet

As the populations and economies of Turkiye and the world grow rapidly, energy demand is also increasing, and meeting this demand sustainably is becoming increasingly important. Since the 1973 oil crisis, countries around the world have shown interest in and invested in all types of renewable energy. Today, wind energy is among the fastest-growing energy sources. Indeed, as of the end of January 2026, Turkiye’s installed wind energy capacity has reached 14,546 MW within a total installed electricity capacity of about 123,063 MW. In addition, global wind energy capacity will exceed 2 TW by 2030. This paper presents an analysis of wind aerodynamic properties and wind energy modelling values in Izmir/Bergama, Izmir/Cesme, Turkiye, and worldwide. In this study, wind speeds in the Bergama and Cesme districts of İzmir were obtained by averaging daily and monthly wind speed data for 2025. The collected data were analyzed using appropriate distributional models in Minitab. According to the wind speed distribution in the Bergama district, the Normal distribution, Box-Cox Transformation distribution, and 3-Parameter Weibull distribution have the largest P-values greater than 0.05. According to the wind speed distribution in the Cesme district, the Box-Cox, Smallest Extreme Value, and Johnson transformation distributions have the largest P-values greater than 0.05. The findings suggest that Bergama and Cesme hold significant potential for wind energy investments in Izmir/Turkiye.
