Purpose: The aim of the present study was to examine the relationship between perceived social support, self-efficacy and disability with psychological distress level of patients with fibromyalgia syndrome. Results: Anxiety and depression levels of patients with fibromyalgia syndrome were found relatively high. Perceived social support and self efficacy were found as predictors of anxiety, whereas marital status (being single), perceived social support and self-efficacy were found as predictors of depression. Additionally, self-efficacy and perceived social support were found as predictors of general psychological distress. Conclusion: Psychological distress like anxiety and depression experienced by fibromyalgia patients are related with perceived social support and self-efficacy. When patients perceived higher levels of social support and self efficacy, they can experience lower level of psychological distress. © 2011 Düzce Medical Journal.
