Özet

With the increase in the world population day by day, the need for new energy resources is increasing. In parallel to this, the number of energy geo-structures also increases. It is known that temperature changes and cycles around energy structures affect the engineering properties of soils. Buffer materials such as bentonite, sand–bentonite are used around these structures so that the soils can maintain their properties and ensure the sealing under room and high temperatures. In this study, fiberglass additives with 3 and 6 mm lengths were added to sand–bentonite mixtures and length effect of fiberglass additive on shear strength behavior under room temperature was investigated. Also, volumetric deformation behavior under room and high temperatures was investigated in the presence of fiberglass additive. The experimental results showed that the shear strength changed insignificantly as the fiberglass length increased, contrary to expectations. Increase in fragility as the length increases is one of the main reasons for this result. It was observed that the volumetric deformation behavior was negligibly affected under room and high temperatures.
