AIM: The objective of this study is to determine the states of family planning and reproductive healthcare services and the factors affecting access to this services in unmarried women aged 15-49 years in a health center area. STUDY DESING: It was a cross-sectional and analytic study, 212 unmarried women was selected by systematic sampling method. Data were collected by questionnaires, by face to face interviews and by closed envelope methods. It was evaluated by SPSS-11.0 program and analysed by Chi-square test. RESULTS: 176 (83.1%) unmarried women were included in this study. 47.7% of this women were in 20-30 age group. 71.6% of those knew the place of health center, however, only 9.7% were informed about family planning by health center workers. They taked also fewer services regarding with reproductive healthcare. The information source of women about the family planning methods and reproductive health was generally media. 44.8% had taken any counseling or examination from doctors or another health workers in hospitals, 38.8% from private doctors, and only 7.5% from health center's doctors, nurses or midwives. 35 (19.9%) women were sexually active, but only 4 women used an effective contraceptive method at the time of study. The home visits for unmarried women by a midwife were not significantly correlated with age, education, income and sexual activity of the women. However, when the midwife visited this women at home, the knowledges of women about family planning methods, sexual transmitted diseases and women health increased significantly. CONCLUSION: The percentages of family planning and reproductive healthcare services and counseling for unmarried women in health centers are very low. The health workers should know that unmarried women have many risks, and it should be given them an effective service with adequate communication.
