Abstract

Reclamation attempts are proposed for mined out areas in limestone open-pits in Izmir. A profound study has been conducted into geology, groundwater hydrology, flora, climate, underground water level and production capacity of the region. At the initial rehabilitiation efforts, the geometry of the benches have been scaled by restoration-oriented blasting techniques. Under the vegetation studies, proper plant types have been selected according to the climatic conditions and the vegetative cover dominating in the region.
