THE EFFECTS OF STRUCTURAL FEATURES OF THE MIHRAB ON THE ACOUSTIC ENVIRONMENT OF HISTORICAL MOSQUES; FOÇA MOSQUES IN İZMİR

Özet

In mosques, which are one of the most important places in the Islamic world, the realization of religious rituals in accordance with the auditory comfort conditions is accepted as one of the architectural requirements of mosques. The mihrab, which is thought to affect the acoustic environment of mosques, enables the congregation to move in unity and head in the same direction. When mosque mihrabs from past to present are examined, it is seen that mihrabs are made in different sizes and plan schemas using various building materials. In this study, the effects of the mihrab on the auditory environment conditions of mosques will be examined through the historical Foça Mosques, which have mihrabs built in different plan schemas and dimensions covered with different building materials. The distribution of Reverberation Time (T30), Clarity (C80), Definition (D50), Speech Transmission Index (STI) and A- Weighted Sound Levels (SPLA) parameters of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Valide Mosque, Kozbeyli Mosque and Fatih Mosque, which were modeled with Odeon 16 Combined acoustic simulation program and whose construction dates to the Ottoman Period, were analyzed for in-volume conditions. According to the results of the analysis, it can be said that the structural characteristics of mosque mihrabs affect the auditory environmental conditions of the volumes. This study aims to examine the effects of the materials used in the mihrabs of sample mosques on the sound environment and to guide the material decisions made within the scope of renovation/repair works of historical mosques. Investigating the effects of using the materials used in the mihrabs of the sample mosques in the repair works of historical mosques is expected to guide the process of deciding on the structural features of the mihrab element for new mosque designs.
