Abstract

This study aimed to modernize the ventilation system of tunnels along the Ankara-İzmir High-Speed Train Line to remove CO2 and H2S gases from inside the tunnels. Ventilation was carried out in an 815 m long tunnel with a 130 m2 surface area using fans. The goal was to eliminate gases, including 8000 ppm of CO2 and 40 ppm of H2S, emitted from the tunnel floor. A fan tube, measuring 765 m in length with a 2200 mm diameter, was positioned according to the tunnel's technical drawing. Gas concentrations were determined through in-tunnel measurements to represent the daily conditions. The fan provided an air flow rate of 39 m3/s at the tube exit. To enhance ventilation, a second fan, assumed to operate in reverse, was added in the tunnel, with a 100 m long fan tube located near the tunnel exit. Furthermore, the first fan tube was extended to 790 m, the second fan tube to 375 m, and analyses were conducted for both single and double-fan scenarios.
