Urban design and planning require collaborative processes thatintegrate diverse user perspectives. Tactical urbanism involvessmall, temporary interventions in public spaces to meet dailyneeds through the collaboration of various stakeholders. Thispaper aims to foster tactical urbanism in vacant lots, emphasisingthe significance of incorporating diverse perspectives. The study, based on participatory action research, discusses the individualviewpoints of young city planner candidates assuming diverseroles across three themes: belonging, aesthetics, and usefulness, and to evaluate the results of two-method exercises applied in theKarşıyaka case study in İzmir. Participants, consisting of studentsfrom various universities in Türkiye, expressed their individual opi-nions and collective viewpoints through the techniques of photo-voice and six thinking hats, respectively. Comparing two methodsfor evaluating vacant lots within three themes of tactical urbanismdemonstrated that the photovoice technique enabled students tosearch for meanings of spaces and express their thoughts throughphotos. Meanwhile, the six thinking hats technique facilitatedempathy towards diverse perspectives. The findings underscorethe essentiality of adopting a holistic approach to urban designthat encompasses aesthetics, functionality, and inclusivity, integrat-ing diverse opinions. Young planner candidates in this studyacknowledged the importance of collaboration and diverse per-spectives in urban design and planning.
