Özet

In this study, temperature distribution of human brain has calculated via Bio-heat Model. Head geometry, to be used in analysis, obtained from converting 2D stack image -which taken via medical imaging machine (MRI, CTI) and can be found in Brainweb- to 3D mesh struct. 3 layered geometry has been created as outer skin, skull and brain. For each layer, tissue perfusion rate, metabolic heat generation and tissue properties have provided from literature. Boundary conditions are defined as for upper section of head skin from forehead, temperature is 0 degrees C, for head base temperature is 37 degrees C and other parts of head skin, tissue is under influence of convection and ambient temperature is 0 degrees C. Temperature distribution over importing geometry has obtained using Comsol Multiphysics with defining basic BC's and tissue properties into the Bio-heat equation. Numerical results shows that, head skin cooling affects brain tissue 3.9-6.1 mm depth and other parts of brain remains about 37 degrees C. The study should be interpreted as step for future studies for estimate thermal effects on brain during thermal therapies and medical operations.
