The cognitive impairment in schizophrenia might involve broad or selective cognitive domains and has major importance in predicting the quality of life and psychosocial functioning of patients. For this reason, in the evaluation of the efficacy of treatment with antipsychotic drugs, their effects on cognition are very important. The aim of the present paper is to describe the features of the cognitive impairments in schizophrenia and to review the studies investigating the effects of antipsychotic drugs on the cognitive disorders in schizophrenia.
